New home for London’s Design Museum

We can’t wait to visit the Design Museum’s new stunning, £83-million London home, which is set to open this week at the former Commonwealth Institute building in Kensington.

Architectural designer John Pawson was responsible for the building’s beautifully reconfigured spaces, where the galleries are arranged around a minimal oak and marble lined atrium.

Dutch architecture practice OMA worked with London firm Allies and Morrison, and Arup engineers to restore the shell of the 1960s Grade II*-listed building in west London – including its distinctive copper-covered, hyperbolic paraboloid roof.

‘Weekend Open’ takes place from 25 – 27 November and features free workshops, installations, talks and performances for all ages.

The Design Museum at 224-238 Kensington High Street, London, W8 6AG and is open from 10-6 every day.

Love the launch video…
